YOUNG talent time is about to hit Eltham.
Eltham Concert Band is to present a concert featuring solo performances from four of Melbourne's most talented young musicians.
Music director Eric Klay said trumpeter Jack Earle, 12, clarinetist Amy Luo, 10, percussionist Hugh Tidy, 16, and trombonist Max English, 13, were all extremely advanced for their age.
"They're like Year 7 students doing first-year university," Mr Klay said. "The pieces they're going to be playing are all standard repertoire for their instruments.
"They're the pieces by which they would be judged if they were doing a professional audition."
Mr Klay said it was the first time the band had put on such a night to encourage talented young musicians.
It would also be the first concert in some time to feature mostly classical pieces. As a treat, Mr Klay said the evening would also include a cameo from Melbourne Symphony Orchestra trombonist Michael Bertoncello, former principal with the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich.
The concert is as Eltham North Hall, Cedar Ave, on Saturday, May 17.
